Our Mission

Geora is on a mission to connect every farmer worldwide with financial and data systems, so they can invest in sustainable production and receive fair value for their produce. We are the first SaaS blockchain platform built for agri-supply chains, and provide our customers with digital tools to build the next generation of agriculture. We are a deep tech start-up, and have been leading at the junction of agriculture and blockchain since 2017.

At Geora, we believe technology can fundamentally change incentive mechanisms, value distribution and trust relationships. We are delivering the best of technology to the agri-supply chain to support and invest in the 570 million farmers worldwide, who are tasked with making critical changes to solve the sustainability challenges of our generation.

The Opportunity at Geora

An exciting opportunity for a talented software engineer to join an early-stage startup and play a key role in designing and building software to help farmers access finance.

You will be part of the Geora technical team driving the development of the Geora track and finance modules. You will work on all components of the platform with a special focus on integrating worldwide in-platform payments in fiat currencies, encoding complex financial instruments in smart contracts, and incorporating decentralised finance and crypto payments into the platform.

As a member of the Geora core team you will:
  • Work with the rest of the team in distilling requirements, meeting directly with customers and stakeholders, architecting the application and product roadmap, and guiding the development process.
  • Architect and build the Geora finance and payments product, primarily in the TypeScript/PureScript/Haskell backend codebase and Ethereum smart contracts, using functional programming languages and techniques.
  • Meet with stakeholders to gather and distill requirements. For example, you may meet with banks and lenders and encode their existing financial instruments into smart contracts.

What you bring to the Geora core:
  • Experience with the development of a greenfield product or large feature through the development process
  • Strong technical skills and experience (approx. 5+ years) working in professional environment
  • Ideally, experience building applications for payments, finance, or banking, or some exposure to these domains
  • Interest or experience in functional programming is a plus, especially in Elm, Haskell or PureScript, and formal verification techniques
  • Base knowledge of blockchain: the underlying principles, advantages, and disadvantages of the technology, its tradeoffs, and the DeFi ecosystem
  • Strong backend engineering skills including API development and relational databases (PostgreSQL)
  • Self-directed and able to work well and push for change within a small team
  • Interest in mentoring and training junior software developers
  • Good customer-facing communication skills
  • Experience in the agri-finance or DeFi space, and knowledge of smart contract development, particularly on the Ethereum blockchain in a plus
What we offer
  • Remote first - we are a remote team with flexibility around working arrangements including partnerships with co-working spaces
  • Share options - we want you to be bought in to the vision and share in our success
  • Development and training - we will work with you to customise a program so you can grow and learn alongside your daily experience at work
  • Work to feel proud of - directly help achieve global sustainability goals and support farmers globally

To get to know your thinking a bit better, we'd appreciate you describing a previous system that you've designed and implemented, providing an architecture diagram if possible. What were the main trade-offs in the system design? Which parts worked well, and which would you change (and how)? What have you learned since then which would inform your decisions now? Please link your answers in a Google Doc or similar.

Thank you for your application! You will hear from us soon.
